Israel and Church Compromise

Here are ten bullet point facts about Israel of the Old Covenant that are commonplace in Christian churches today:

  • Idolatry of Success & Wealth: Just as Israel chased Baal and Asherah for prosperity and fertility (Hos. 2:5, Jer. 2:23-25), large segments of the church now chase the prosperity gospel, celebrity pastors, and “seed faith” giving, treating God as a cosmic ATM while ignoring spiritual maturity and holiness.
  • Political & Military Alliances: Israel repeatedly ran to Egypt and Assyria for protection instead of trusting Yahweh (Isa. 31:1, Hos. 7:11). Today, the church partners with political parties, governments, and billionaires, selling pulpits for policy influence and “Christian nationalism” rather than being salt and light.
  • Sexual Syncretism: Israel adopted temple prostitution and child sacrifice of the Canaanites (II Kings 17:7-17). The modern church increasingly affirms same-sex marriage, gender fluidity, and cohabitation, redefining biblical marriage to match the sexual revolution.
  • Worship Entertainment: Israel turned the temple into a marketplace and house of pagan revelry (Jer. 7:9-11, Ezek. 8). Many churches now feature concert-style worship, smoke machines, and celebrity performers, prioritizing emotional experience over reverence and repentance.
  • False Prophets & Teachers: Israel loved prophets who said “Peace, peace” when there was no peace (Jer. 6:14, Ezek. 13). The church elevates “life coaches” and motivational speakers who promise health, wealth, and destiny while never calling sin sin.
  • Unequal Yoking with the World: Israel intermarried with pagan nations and adopted their gods (Deut. 7:3-4, Judg. 3:5-6). The church now yokes with Hollywood, corporations, and “woke” ideology, sanitizing the gospel to avoid offending the culture.
  • Social Justice On the World’s Terms: Israel practiced injustice toward the poor while claiming covenant protection (Amos 5:21-24). Large parts of the church today claim to champion secular social justice, but the wrong way – through critical theory and DEI initiatives, etc.
  • Neglect of the Word for Relevance: Israel ignored the Torah and listened to lying scribes (Jer. 8:8-9). The contemporary church often replaces Holy Spirit-inspired preaching and teaching with felt-needs motivational speaking and psychology.
  • Trust in Numbers & Buildings: Israel boasted in its temple and military might (Mic. 3:11). Mega-churches and global denominations measure success by attendance, campuses, and budgets rather than lives characterized by holiness, obedience, and the gifts and fruits of the Spirit.
  • Spiritual Adultery While Claiming Covenant: Israel still cried “The temple of the Lord!” while practicing every abomination (Jer. 7:4-10). Today, many churches wave the banner of “Jesus is Lord” while embracing every worldly fad, declaring “God is doing a new thing” to justify compromise.

These ten parallels do not apply to every local congregation, but about the visible, mainstream trajectory of much of Western Christianity, exactly the same spiritual prostitution God repeatedly diagnosed in Israel before judgment came.

The remedy has always been the same: return, repent, and be faithful.
