As complex as America’s conflict with Iran may be, it is arguably easier to confront than the battle many Americans wish would take place in Washington, D.C.—not a physical war, but one in which the justice system holds powerful politicians accountable.
Across party lines, senior political figures operate with impunity while directing hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars toward wars against hostile regimes and their proxies abroad. In Washington, political elites function as a protected class. Many enter public service with modest means and leave it considerably wealthier, shielded by influence, legislation, and mutual protection.
They are aided by a compliant media and a culture of political self-preservation. Perhaps most striking is the brazenness with which this system operates—misrepresentation and evasion have become routine skills among power brokers, practiced openly and without consequence.
Yet this reality persists largely because voters allow it.
Washington reflects the majority of Americans. There is a little salt left in the land, but for the most part, we are a lost America, barely hanging on for survival.
How long before God brings us to account?
