A Proper Perspective on Midterms
The mid-terms were big for us, but not even a yawn to God. He’s working His plan.
God’s eye is on His own, which includes all those who are already redeemed by the blood of His Son, as well as those who will be.
To the spiritual seed of Abraham God says:
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” I Pet. 2:9-10
To the natural seed of Abraham, not yet born of His Spirit, He says:
“For thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.'” Zech. 2:8
Yes, He said that the children of Jacob (Israel) are the apple of His eye, but don’t make small God’s love, care, and concern for you if your born of His Spirit, whether you’re a descendant from the people of Iowa, Ireland, Iceland, or Israel.
If you’re in Christ, you are His “chosen,” His “royal priesthood,” His “holy nation,” and “His own special people.”
The apple of His eye (His cherished possession) is both the natural and spiritual bloodline of Abraham.
The USA and every other earthly domain serve God to that end. Full stop.
All worldly kingdoms, the USA included, serve to that end – no more and no less. God raises up presidents, prime ministers, despots, kings and kingdoms, and He takes them down. He created all things, and one day He’s going to change it all. That long-prophesied day of change is here.
God’s eye is on the apple of His eye, not on many of the things our eyes are fixated on.
God’s eye is not on the stock market here, or in Japan, in Europe, or elsewhere. Our eyes are on it, but His eye is on bringing His cherished possession to a glorious end.
So, what is our eye on most? The answer to that question is easy: “whatever we give our attention to the most.”
That doesn’t mean we should not be aware of those things, especially if that’s the occupation He’s given. But it does mean that He wouldn’t have us get so caught up in it all.
Regarding things on earth, He wants us caught up in what He’s caught up in – His most cherished possessions – the spiritual and natural bloodlines of Abraham.
Regarding things of heaven, He wants us caught up in Him!
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” Col. 3:1-4
But what about data centers, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, or the state of Texas?
Nope. They’re not of any grave concern to Him either.
He has no idols, no special places on earth to live other than in the lives of His own people. We are His temple on earth.
Jerusalem and Israel, including as far as the eye can see from Mt. Sinai, are special to Him, of course, but He doesn’t idolize them either.
Texas, Tennessee, or Toledo? Nope. He cares for them because He has people there; otherwise, they’re all toast. Have you not read where the Bible says that the whole world is going to burn, and God’s the One who’s going to strike the match?
God is eternal. His kingdom is eternal. Our kingdoms are small, temporal, and corrupt at the core. We are a civilization wholly, completely, and utterly lost unless God stoops down to help us.
Only those that He has redeemed are pure, and that’s by His doing, not ours. And He has more to come!
No world leader, good or bad, is the “apple of God’s eye,” and we should be careful not to exalt anyone – only God and His Son, our Savior. All others stand equal at the foot of His cross.
We idolize places, people, and things. He idolizes no one, no place, or thing.
His eye is on anyone and everyone who knows Him and honors Him, whether great or small. These have His constant attention, His kindest care. All these are under His care.
He’s over all things, and infinitely bigger than what things are big in our eyes.
Even if someone turns the former Robert Shuller’s Crystal Cathedral into the mother of all data centers, or Notre Dame into a Muslim mosque, God’s not going to so much as turn His head.
His affection and His attention are on His own and those who shall be. Full stop.
The apple of God’s eye is His redeemed and those who shall be redeemed. It’s all about bringing many sons into glory and revealing His glory to the world through us.
His greater attention is not on AI/SI, it’s not on a football team, on deep sea fishing, on social media, or the pothole on the street where you live (well, maybe the pothole would be the exception :))- so why should so much of our attention be absorbed by those things?
The apple of God’s eye is not China or the communist party. It’s not Kim Jong Un of North Korea, no matter how much that “little man” boasts about himself and his nuclear power. God’s not the slightest bit concerned over any or all the nuclear arsenals in the world.
He is definitely OVER them all, for sure!
Which is precisely why He’s not concerned at all about them!
No one can shoot a pea shooter unless He allows them to – how much less is anyone able to use a nuclear weapon without His okay? Right now, God’s got them all locked down. They can’t possibly be used until God allows; and when He does, no one will be able to lock them down.
God is not a member of MAGA or of any political party, not a member of any Christian denomination, workers union, or even a garden club.
God follows no one. He only leads.
He’s not a “follower” of even the biggest, brightest, and best of the Christian/Conservative influencers. God never promotes or even endorses Christian men or women due to their good looks, academic achievements, financial status, or likeable personalities.
And if Revelation two and three are a typical measure of what He thinks about the Church, He’s not even close to being pleased with them.
God stands alone. Thinks alone. Decides all things alone. He has the first and last word because He is the Word.
We should keep all earthly things in proper perspective with God’s agenda at the end of this age (right now), when He will expose many things, judge the unrighteous, and reward the righteous with everlasting life.
