Mark teaches that Jesus’ warning about coming “fire” points to a purifying work in the Church through trials, persecution, and discipline. He argues that much of modern Christianity has become shallow and compromised, but that God will use coming pressure to separate the true Church from the merely visible Church, refine a faithful remnant, and prepare a mature, holy, glorious bride for Christ’s return.
