The Fog of Normalcy

To one degree or another, everyone has been shaped by their surroundings, including the shape of their convictions – and convictions can be stubborn when challenged.

Sometimes, it’s not until we are taken far enough outside those surroundings that we recognize our need for change. Stepping away for a while can be very enlightening. Oftentimes, looking from the outside, we can see more clearly.

Usually, it is not until we step out of the fog of normalcy that we realize we were in a fog.

But there are some areas of our lives that we are not so willing to step away from to make an honest assessment. We are afraid. One of those areas is the way we practice Christianity – whether it’s how we meet, or how we live.

We have become so comfortable in the fog that we’d rather die there than make a change.

We close our eyes, stop our ears, and live out the rest of our lives with little faith. A sad commentary. A weak testimony. “Oh, you, of little faith…” (Matthew 8:26).
